The rebellious head of Mercury and Smash Records left them in 1968 to start his own label with an emphasis on counter culture and novelty recordings. His name was Shelby Singleton, and he most famously picked up Jeannie C. Riley and scored big with 'Harper Valley P.T.A.' He also picked up acts ranging from Webb Pierce and Patti Page to Rex Allen Jr.. and Barbara Eden. This 2-CD compilation explores the 14-year run of Plantation Records and includes the label 23 charted hits along with 27 other great songs.
