Arriving at the end of the ’80s, …But Seriously found Phil Collins turning his sharpest pop instincts toward weightier, more socially conscious terrain. The album marks a shift from the confessional introspection of his earlier solo work toward a broader worldview—examining homelessness, inequality, and political complacency without ever losing the melodic clarity that made him a global phenomenon. Built around warm, organic production and Collins’ unmistakable rhythmic drive, the record moves seamlessly between widescreen balladry and tightly wound pop-soul. “Another Day in Paradise” sets the tone—somber, spacious, and quietly urgent.
