During the lively morning hours of February 8th, 1977, a desperate Tony Kiritsis (Bill Skarsgard) enters the office of M.L. Hall (Al Pacino), president of the Meridian Mortgage Company, and takes his son Richard (Dacre Monthomery) hostage. Tony wires a sawed-off shotgun to Halls neck with a dead mans switch tied to the trigger - if Richard runs or the police intervene boom! Tony claims that Richard and his father have ripped him off and his demands are clear: $5 million dollars, immunity from prosecution and a personal apology. Tensions surge while a team of negotiators try to diffuse the high-stakes showdown, but Tony will only speak with the city's most respected newsman, Fred Temple (Colman Domingo), as he broadcasts his plight to the nation. As the standoff reaches boiling point, Tony's frayed nerves and the swirling media circus threaten to escalate a wild confrontation into a bloody showdown. Is Tony a folk hero battling against an unjust system or a madman pushed to the edge? And how far is he willing to go to seek justice?
